The Hoffman Memorial Myrtlewood Grove is located on the edge of Myrtle Point. A number of fine specimens of Oregon's famous myrtlewood trees (Umbellularia californica) are growing there alongside of the South Fork of the Coquille River. Myrtlewood is a thristy tree. Every day each one of the largest trees absorbs more than one ton of water from the river. The wood is prized for its beautiful grain and color. Many shops in Southwestern Oregon offer bowls and other craft items made from myrtlewood. |
