The old logging town of Whitney is located on Highway 7 just a few miles west of Sumpter and Baker City. In 1901 the Sumpter Railroad was extended to Whitney. The town was abandoned in 1947 when the railraod ceased operations. At its peak 150 people lived in Whitney. |
